Heat the garlic, ginger, honey, about ¾ of the water, and brown sugar in a sauce pan. Whisk until the sugar dissolves and the sauce starts to thicken.
In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch and remaining water to create a slurry. Add it to the sauce pan and whisk the mixture until it thickens to a glossy consistency (about 2-3 minutes). Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
Put the fillets in a large dish or ziplock bag. Pour the teriyaki mixture over the salmon and refrigerate for 15 minutes. If you’re using a dish, you’ll want to cover the salmon before putting it in the fridge.
Place the marinated salmon in the air fryer for about 12 minutes or until the salmon is flaky and cooked through. You can make it extra saucy by brushing more teriyaki sauce on the filets 2-3 minutes before they’re done cooking.
Garnish: (optional) sprinkle the sesame seeds and scallions over the salmon.
Notes
Instead mincing the garlic yourself, save some time and purchase a jar of minced garlic. It comes in extremely handy for other recipes too!
Teriyaki Sauce: If you don’t want to make your own sauce, you can use your favorite store bought sauce.
